Progress on my Project Quilting Entry

I've started hacking away at my beautiful rectangles that I cut from the Thai silk. I have one section pieced & quilted, another section pieced & basted, and a final section that's being pieced.

So far, I've been incorporating some new techniques, such as:
1) Working with silk taffeta. I used a lightweight interfacing on the back to help prevent fraying & to keep the pieces somewhat square.
2) Working with Misty Fuse. I saw a demo of MF at the International Quilt Festival, and I've heard a lot about it from other art quilters. So I decided to buy some and try it for the first time in this quilt. So far, so good. I ended up adding MF to about half of my rectangles.
3) Working with Signature Thread. I have had a spool of this variegated thread, which is fairly thick, and the colors are pretty complementary to the silks. So I decided to use it instead of rayon embroidery thread.
4) Using felt as a batting. I have a TON of felt squares just sitting in my stash, which happen to be the perfect size for the sections of my quilt. It handles pretty well and I like the stiffness it provides while still being a little bit flexible.
5) Using die cuts as artistic elements. I've sacrificed a couple of rectangles in the pursuit of this to soften the quilt a bit. I know I'm going to have rectangles left over, but I can see another fused project in the near future, so they definitely won't go to waste.

No pictures yet - maybe tomorrow!

Happy quilting!
