Project Quilting Cutting Complete

I was so excited today! The dies I need to make my Project Quilting project arrived today, so I quickly unwrapped them & got to cutting. I have all the pieces cut for the main blocks. I haven't cut the borders yet because I want to keep my options open on how I incorporate the striped fabric that is part of the challenge.

I chose a pretty bold color scheme, so we will see what happens upon execution. I also did some looser interpretation of the Shoofly block.

As an aside, I discovered that Accuquilt bases their square block die sets on a 4-patch layout, which limits the blocks you can make with the die set. I really prefer working in a 9-patch layout as there's more variety, but I was pleased to note that as long as I'm flexible in the finished size of the block, I can cut blocks using a 9-patch design if I wanted.

My experiment today was with Ohio Star, which is a 9-patch layout. I used the 12" die set, but this particular combination of dies produced a 12.5" finished block. Not the end of the world, but it can make a difference in the size of a finished quilt. Here's the Ohio Star block I made:

I think it turned out pretty well, but as you can imagine, it's simply not an option to chop off 1" of this block to make it 12". I think it will be fun to convert some of the traditional quilt blocks & tell people how to make them using a die cutter!

Happy quilting!
