Online Quilt Festival

Thanks to PamelaQuilts for raising awareness of this fabulous event!

My entry in the Online Quilt Festival is called "Sunrise Over Nanning." This quilt was the largest quilt I'd ever made at that point, and it certainly was one of the most intricate. This is from an original design and pattern. The Chinese characters all have meaning, and the little girl it was made for (Mae) was absolutely stunned & speechless that it had been made just for her.

As I was making this quilt, my biggest fear was that I would somehow mix up the characters during the quilting, and as I didn't speak or read Chinese, it made it highly likely that I would make a major mistake. In fact, my worst fear came true when I was horrified to find, after the top had been completely assembled & quilted, that I had indeed switched one of the words!! My stomach sank at the idea. I painstakingly removed all the stitching in the immediate location, removed the block, made a completely new one, inserted it back in the quilt, and used invisible thread to stitch it back in the quilt. Next time I do something like this, I will quadruple check against the drawing before assembly!!! :)

You can read more about this quilt here.

Happy quilting!
